Apostle and Martyr. Born Saul, Paul was his Roman name, taken primarily after his dramatic conversion. On the way to continue his avid persecution of the early Christians, he received a blinding vision of Jesus, who rebuked him and guided him into the Church. Paul would become the Apostle to the Gentiles, constantly traveling to preach the Gospel until his imprisonment and eventual martyrdom.Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed June 28, 2008, to June 29, 2009 to be a Jubilee year celebrating the 2000 years since the birth of St. Paul.Saint Paul, pray for us.
